This MOOC is a resource for artists, producers and organisers of artistic forms in public space, enabling them to leverage cultural rights to build, analyse and develop their approaches to artistic creation in public space.

Public space is never neutral or devoid of meaning. The narratives or representations we attribute to these places or to the people who live there, the social, gender or cultural norms, and the power balances between certain groups of people or at the political level all have an effect on the possible uses and appropriation of these spaces.

Both physical and symbolic borders can hinder or restrict mobility and access to certain places, along with opportunities for people to interact and get to know one other. Those involved in artistic creation in public space are also affected by these issues. The aim of this MOOC is to open them up to issues that go beyond the field of artistic creation, so that they can play their part in public space with an awareness of the wider issues at stake.
